The II South Cross Games were held in Rosario, Argentina,
from November 26 through December 5, 1982. Some events
were held in Santa Fe, Buenos Aires and Esperanza.
The Games started to grow and now counted
on the participation of two additional countries: Colombia
and Venezuela, who joined the eight countries that had
participated in the first edition, in Bolivia. The number
of athletes doubled: 961 men and women competed for
medals in the 19 sports that integrated the program:
Artistic Gymnastics, Athletics, Baseball, Basketball,
Boxing, Cycling, Fencing, Football, Judo, Sailing, Shooting,
Skating, Swimming, Rowing, Table tennis, Tennis, Volleyball,
Weightlifting and Wrestling.
The host country was the absolute
winner, with a total 272 medals, 114 gold, far ahead
from Chile, the second place in the gold medal ranking
with 135 medals, 37 gold. The dispute for the third
place was tight, with Peru defeating Brazil by one gold
medal: 30 to 29.
